Silhouettes cut from specially printed black paper
using scissors while you pose then presented in a quality,
glossy-covered folder for protection. A memory
to cherish.
Ideal for cocktail receptions, parties, masque balls,
black tie nights, or the more refined type of evening.
Ideally, I would ask my sitters to come to me as I sit
at my own table, but I can also work around tables if required.
Experience tells me this is not ideal, as people will, for some
unaccountable reason, want to eat. For shame :-)
Pre- or post- meal is best.

The art of silhouette cutting is alleged to
have been named after Etienne de Silhouette, a French Finance Minister
who would entertain his friends by cutting paper portraits. Other forms
of silhouetting involve a kind of camera obscura: magic lanterns would
project a shadow of the sitter's head onto a paper screen which would
then be traced and filled in with Indian ink. This was a cheap and
effective type of portraiture before the invention of the camera.

Silhouettes were often given by lovers for
remembrance or sent by hopeful parents to prospective suitors for their
sons or daughters. The ability to flatter was a vital skill that every
jobbing silhouettist had to have! |
